JOANNE P. MONAGAN is a member of our matrimonial and family law department. She graduated from Ithaca College and from the Albany Law School of Union University. After  graduation, she started a successful local private practice focusing on matrimonial and family law. During that time Joanne  handled  thousands of cases involving matrimonial law, family law, custody, divorce, adoption and  domestic violence including trials and appeals.
 
Joanne's widely recognized and successful private practice led to a Judicial appointment as a Principal Court Attorney for Rensselaer County Family Court and the New York State Supreme Court. While with the Unified Court System, she administered hundreds of matrimonial, family law, custody, support and divorce matters through all stages from the initial court appearance, court conferences, negotiations, trial preparation and drafted decisions.
 
Her exceptional experience as  private matrimonial and family law practitioner and member of the court system has enabled her to acquire the knowledge necessary to identify the critical issues presented by each unique case. Joanne's familiarity and expertise inside the  court system coupled with her excellent communication and negotiation skills allow her to advocate vigorously and successfully for her clients.
 
Joanne provides exceptional legal representation to clients in both simple and very complex matters. She has represented clients in Family Court and Supreme Court in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Saratoga and Columbia counties and throughout Upstate New York. She is admitted to the New York State Bar and to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.
 
Joanne is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Family Law Section, the Capital District Women's Bar Association, the Albany County Bar Association and the Rensselaer County Bar Association.
