Using Our Experience to Resolve Your Family Law Issues
When a marriage reaches the breaking point, a separation agreement can play a useful role in recasting the relationship. It is often best for all concerned if the parties can work things out and enter into one of these agreements. But sometimes, of course, that is just not possible.
At Bartle, McGrane, Duffy & Jones, LLP, we have years of experience helping clients with separation agreements. Contact us today at our office in Troy to schedule a consultation. We serve clients in the Albany area, the Capital District, and throughout New York state.
What a Marital Separation Agreement Does
A separation agreement is essentially a private contract between a husband and a wife. The agreement is negotiated between the parties and their attorneys. It covers issues that include:
- Child custody and visitation
- Child support
- Spousal support/maintenance/alimony
- Equitable distribution of marital property
Once the agreement is executed by the parties, and they live by it for one year, it can serve as grounds for no-fault divorce. The parties can submit to the court for that purpose, or they can continue to live under it.
